Virgin Atlantic is returning to Cancun, Mexico, in October after a gap of six years.
The airline will offer the only direct flights from London Heathrow to Mexico’s Caribbean coast, a service that will be operated by a Boeing 787-9.
Virgin also upping services to two other popular destinations: Cape Town and Dubai.
Capacity on the route to South Africa’s most popular city for tourists is to increase by 15% this winter – and the airline is also extending the season, which begins in October and runs through to April, a move it says was prompted by a 38% increase in bookings compared to 2024.
Visitors to Dubai will benefit from 50% more seats this winter, Virgin’s strongest ever winter schedule to the Emirate, after seeing demand surge by 72%.
Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer, Virgin Atlantic, said: “As more of our customers seek out winter sun and unforgettable experiences, we’re focused on giving them more of what they love. Our expanded flying to Dubai and Cape Town, alongside our return to Cancun, reflects strong demand for premium leisure travel, as we whisk our customers to their next adventure.
“Whether it’s glamour in the Gulf, culture and coastlines in South Africa or the vibrant energy of Mexico, Virgin Atlantic is here to make every journey feel special, from take-off to touchdown.”
