Abercrombie & Kent has reopened the luxurious Gorilla Forest Lodge in Uganda, marking the 40th anniversary of the mountaintop base.

Originally conceived in 1985 as Gorilla Forest Camp, the property is perched high in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to more than half of the world’s remaining 1,000 mountain gorillas.

Closed since October 2024, the remodelled property now features 10 enlarged and refurbished suites, with each featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, expansive veranda-like decks and free-standing baths.

The renovation includes a newly expanded spa and a refreshed lounge and dining area with clay-look textured plaster walls and woven banana leaf ceilings drawing on Uganda cultural heritage.

It is the only luxury lodge located inside the gates of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Rangers take guests on guided gorilla treks from the property, which is famed for being so integrated with the forest that the animals often wander inside themselves.

The property is bookable via A&K either as part of a tailor-made itinerary or small group tour.
