Uganda Airlines has commenced direct flights between the UK and Uganda after nearly a decade’s absence.
The inaugural flight departed Entebbe International Airport on May 18 at 09.25 and arrived at Gatwick at 15.55.
The non-stop service operates four times weekly: Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, with same day return departures from London.
The route, operated by Uganda Airlines’ Airbus A330-800neo, will make it easier for UK travellers to explore Uganda’s diverse natural attractions, from the mountain gorillas in the remote Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (pictured) to the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains to immense Lake Victoria – catch the ferry to the Ssese Islands in Lake Victoria for sunning views, lush hikes and wide lakeside beaches – to extreme water sports on the Nile.
In the northwest of the country, Murchison Falls National Park is known for its 43m-tall waterfall and wildlife such as hippos, elephants, crocodiles and an abundance of bird species, while Queen Elizabeth National Park is famous for its tree-climbing lions.
Kibale Forest National Park and Budongo Forest are both popular for chimpanzee tracking.
“The UK remains one of Uganda’s largest source markets for inbound tourism. We anticipate a strong boost in tourism arrivals and associated revenues,” commented Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki.
