Turkish Airlines debuts its longest route

The initial flight on Turkish Airlines’ longest service, its Istanbul-Sydney route, landed at Sydney Airport on November 29. Operated four times a week via Kuala Lumpur, the flights take 19 hours and have a 9,300-mile route.

The inaugural flight to Sydney sets the stage for Turkish Airlines’ plans to introduce direct, non-stop services from Istanbul. The flights between Istanbul and Sydney will be aboard Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Designed for long-haul comfort, Turkish Airlines’ A350-900 has 32 flatbed seats in Business class and 297 reclining seats for Economy travellers.

Sydney becomes the second Australian city on the Turkish flag carrier’s network, which now spans 351 destinations, following the introduction of flights between Istanbul and Melbourne in March 2024.

Bilal Ekşi, CEO of Turkish Airlines states: “The arrival of our first flight from Istanbul to Sydney represents our ongoing commitment to connect travellers across the globe, providing a seamless gateway between Europe and Australia with the comfort and hospitality of Turkish Airlines. Once we receive our aircraft capable of conducting the journey in a single leap, we look forward to further expanding our offering in the near future with Australia’s first non-stop flights to Istanbul.”

The special launch price of US$999 for Istanbul to Sydney flights has been set. Meanwhile, the introductory fare of AUS$1489 has been set for the Turkish Airlines’ flight from Sydney to Istanbul flights until June 20 2025 with the last ticketing date being December 31, 2024.
