Kenya ready for another UK take-off

A brand new service will be available from Gatwick to Nairobi this summer.

Kenya Airways is introducing a brand-new service from Gatwick to Nairobi this summer.

Starting on July 2, the route to the East African country’s capital will operate three times a week and will increase the airline’s London schedule to 10 weekly flights.

Commenting on adding Gatwick to Kenya Airways’ route network, Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka hinted at the potential for further expansion, commenting: “This is just the beginning of our expansion plans for the UK market”.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s infrastructure on the ground is also being transformed with the new Dongo Kundu Bypass significantly improving access to the Kenya’s coastal towns and cities, including Diani, which is a popular choice for UK travellers who choose to add on a beach stay after a safari in one of the country’s wildlife parks.

The newly constructed road cuts travel time from Mombasa Airport to Diani to just one-and-a-half hours.

Elsewhere, the iconic Nairobi-Mombasa train route has been upgraded with the introduction of a Premium Class cabin on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

The five-and-a-half-hour journey aboard the air-conditioned Madaraka Express (which means “freedom” in Swahili) is fast, safe and comfortable and provides a ‘slow window’ onto Kenya’s green landscapes.

The train passes through two of Kenya’s venerable wildlife parks – Tsavo West and Tsavo East and  the train’s large windows offers views of hills, lakes, plains and maybe wildlife.

After several years’ absence in the UK market, the Kenya Tourist Board recently appointed SLC Travel Marketing PR and Representation to enhance the country’s UK profile and trade awareness.
