Australian experiential tourism group Journey Beyond has completed the acquisition of one of the country’s most popular hotels.

Located in the Northern Territory, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, the Crocodile Hotel is a national tourism icon.

Uniquely shaped to represent Kakadu’s most famous resident, the saltwater crocodile, the 110-room “Croc Hotel” is in the township of Jabiru and key features include the Manjmukmuk Restaurant and Bar, conference facilities, an outdoor swimming pool, and an on-site art gallery showcasing local artwork.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome the Crocodile Hotel to the group,” said Chris Tallent, CEO of Journey Beyond. “This property is more than just a place to stay; it is a gateway to the heart of Kakadu. With significant investment planned for the hotel, we look forward to growing awareness and demand to Kakadu, expanding the operational offering and delivering the exceptional experience that our guests expect.”

The addition of the Crocodile Hotel complements Journey Beyond’s existing Northern Territory icons, including The Ghan and Ayers Rock Resort, and strengthens the group’s commitment to showcasing the rich Indigenous culture and breathtaking landscapes of the Top End.

“The acquisition aligns with Journey Beyond’s approach of creating experiences, connections and memories that guests cherish for a lifetime,” added Tallent.

The hotel is situated within Jabiru, upon land leased from the Mirarr Traditional Owners through Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation Jabiru Town (GACJT). Journey Beyond will work with GACJT to further develop opportunities across employment, education and enterprise, Tallent added.

Kakadu Tourism Director of Sales and Marketing, Sam Waldron, said the acquisition by Journey Beyond was positive news for the future of tourism in Kakadu and the Top End.

“Kakadu Tourism has been privileged to represent such an iconic property, and we look forward to watching Journey Beyond breathe new life into the hotel,” she said.
