Intrepid Travel has acquired two new properties in Morocco and Australia.
The first property is a 17-room riad in Marrakesh, a traditional Moroccan guesthouse that will be fully operated by the travel company from this July.
Guests enjoy culinary experiences in the medina and on-site. Chefs were recruited via Intrepid’s foundation partner, the Amal Association, which provides culinary skills training to women in Morocco.
Meanwhile, the Edge of Bay property is located in Tasmania’s Coles Bay. The travel company will embed its foundation partner Greening Australia at the property. Nature-based experiences and fundraising for the NGO will be available to guests.
Both properties will be responsibly operated and give back to the community.
The company’s new accommodation strategy is to create “a portfolio of boutique small inventory accommodation experiences that have community and impact at their core”.
It plans to expand to 20 properties worldwide in the next three years.
CEO James Thornton said: “Our approach to accommodation is underpinned by a commitment to preserving culture, fostering connection, supporting communities and boosting travel’s economic contribution within the local community.”
Intrepid acquired Daintree Ecolodge in Tropical North Queensland in 2023 and has a multi-year lease on a hotel in Hoi An in Vietnam.
