Exodus charts growth of educational travel

The tour operator’s Citizen Science departures allow travellers to get involved with important scientific research

Exodus Adventure Travels has announced new Citizen Science departures for 2025 and 2026 following the growth in demand for educational trips.

“With demand for responsible and educational experiences on the rise, Exodus’ Citizen Science Departures provide the opportunity for each traveller to learn about and get directly involved with species mapping. Following the trip, they will also receive a report outlining the species that they have helped identify,” said Kasia Morgan, Group Head of Sustainability at Travelopia.

Exodus also revealed that Finland and The Dolomites are its most popular destinations for its Citizen Science trips.

The Dolomites are known for their high biodiversity, containing around 2,400 plant species and fauna including chamois, roe deer, various bird species – and there has been recent sightings of bears, lynx, and golden jackals. The area also features forests with diverse birdlife and high-altitude meadows with marmots and rock ptarmigans.

Finland has approximately 48,000 known plant and animal species, however, 12 per cent of species are classed as threatened.

In 2024, 78 global samples were taken on Exodus’ Citizen Science departures which resulted in the detection of 797 species. Seven IUCN threatened species were identified including the Fire Salamander, the endangered American Eel and the vulnerable Military Macaw.

“By collecting environmental DNA from freshwater sources across the world, our customers are contributing to the groundbreaking eBioAtlas – a global map of life helping to inform conservation policy and protect endangered species. These departures are perfect for travellers who have a vested interest in supporting conservation efforts in the environments and communities they visit,” added Morgan.

An eight-day ‘Classic Dolomites – Premium Adventure’, is priced from £1,849pp excluding flights and including B&B accommodation, all additional listed meals and all transport and listed activities. Citizen Science departure on July 12, 2025.
