The author, influencer and disability rights advocate wants to see companies demonstrate understanding of issues facing disabled people

Dr Amo Raju OBE DL, author, influencer and a renowned charity specialist and consultant,  is joining the panel of judges for the inaugural Travel for Every Body Awards.

The awards will help to raise awareness of the work being done in the travel industry to improve the experience of travellers with accessibility needs.

By showcasing these industry initiatives, the Travel for Every Body Awards will help drive further change to make travel and tourism more inclusive.

Entries close July 14.

Raju is the author of Walk Like A Man: From Limited to Limitless, a story of his own journey with cerebral palsy and depression, which is also shared on the Ted Platform in his Tedx Talk.

Recognised with an OBE and numerous other awards for his contribution to improving the lives of disabled people, he continues to champion the rights of, and be a voice for, marginalised communities.

As a highly-regarded keynote speaker and media expert, he frequently appears in the media to discuss disability and mental health issues, alongside hosting his podcast which addresses critical societal topics.

Raju has over 31 years of experience in the charity sector, and is known for his impactful advocacy for social change. He has established essential services for diverse communities, particularly within South Asian and minority groups, and supported numerous social enterprises, including international wheelchair distribution initiatives.

“The Travel for Every Body Awards are important because travel for people with a disability can become a military operation. Disabled people have traditionally had to plan their journeys, right from the living room to to the airport to arrivals and transfers to hotels.

“I’ve got lived experience as a disabled person with cerebral palsy, so I’ve experienced these frustrations first hand. In the awards entries, I want to see what companies are doing to understand the issues faced by disabled people, and I will be looking for examples of people with disabilities being involved in the planning of services offered by travel companies.”
