British Airways is stopping its direct flights between London Heathrow and Beijing on October 26.
It did not give a reason for the decision but flights to Asia from Europe have become significantly longer and more costly due to the need to avoid Russian airspace since the war in Ukraine.
The move comes just over a year since BA resumed the Beijing route, in June 2023, after a three-year hiatus during the Covid pandemic.
At that time, it described the Beijing service as “one of our most important routes”.
The decision comes less than a month after BA also cut the number of flights to Hong Kong from twice to once daily.
Virgin Atlantic will also stop flying between London and Shanghai from October 25 due to “significant challenges and complexities on this route”.
