Toronto stars in latest Michelin ratings

The latest guide highlights the depth of the city's food scene spotlighting new restaurants and existing favourites

Toronto has reaffirmed its standing as one of Canada’s top culinary destinations following the release of the latest Michelin Guide.

Among the eateries elevating the city’s status as a powerhouse of culinary innovation and diversity is Asian diner aKin, which opened less than a year ago in the downtown Colbourne Street. It obtained its first Michelin Star, becoming the city’s 16th restaurant to be awarded the prestigious accolade.

Toronto also won plaudits for the depth of its foodie offering. The Michelin Guide added a further six restaurants – 7 Enoteca, Barrel Heart Brewing, Mhel, Ricky + Olivia, Sundays and The Cottage Cheese – to its Bib Gourmand list, taking the region’s total to 106 across 31 different cuisine types. These restaurants are acclaimed for offering great food without a giant price tag.

Meanwhile, Pearl Morissette in nearby Lincoln, around 56 miles from Toronto, gained a second star. The French fine dining establishment was described as a ‘powerhouse’ venue for its eclectic menu and friendly staff and for presenting “a modern interpretation of Chinese cuisine that bridges Toronto’s multicultural roots with contemporary creativity”.

Sundays in Uxbridge, 40 miles north of Toronto, was awarded a Green Star, celebrating its leadership in sustainability through seasonal sourcing, local farming and minimal-waste practices.

This year also saw six new Bib Gourmand entries, including 7 Enoteca, Barrel Heart Brewing, Mhel, Ricky + Olivia, Sundays and The Cottage Cheese, bringing the total to 106 restaurants across 31 cuisine types.

This breadth of recognition demonstrated how Toronto’s culinary landscape embraces both fine dining and accessible, everyday excellence.
