Alula in north west Saudi Arabia is set to welcome a range of new hotels in October 2023 and beyond.
Scheduled to open in October is Dar Tantora, an eco-friendly property that incorporates ancient mudbrick housing found in Old Town. Up to five rooms will be available, featuring traditional decor and minimal modern technology for a truly authentic old AlUla experience.
Meanwhile, boutique hotel Chedi Hegra will be set among the ancient Nabataean site of Hegra. The luxury 35-room hotel will occupy several existing structures, including an old railway station, Hegra Fort, and other surrounding buildings. Original structural and exterior walls, some built from mud brick, will be carefully preserved and integrated into the hotel’s modern architecture. The vast majority of the UNESCO World Heritage Site will remain untouched by construction.
The Royal Commission for AlUla has also announced the construction of two new resorts; Sharaan Resort and International Summit Centre and AZULIK AlUla.
AZULIK AlUla, set to open in 2027, will consist of 76 luxury villas with the build incorporating nearby ancient rock art inscriptions. The resort will prioritise sustainable transportation options such as all-electric mobility, horse and camel routes, and hiking trails.
At Caravan by Habitas an additional 23 Caravans will be added to the existing inventory in Q4 2023, bringing the total to 45.
The region has already welcomed the luxury Banyan Tree Alula at the end of 2022, and Cloud7 Residence AlUla in February 2023, a more affordable option within the destination.
