Hotel review: Club Med La Plagne 2100

Selling Travel reviews a one week all-inclusive ski holiday in the Paradiski ski area of the French Alps

The background

Located at 2,100 metres, the hotel has views of Mont Blanc and ski-in ski-out access to Paradiski’s 265 miles of ski and snowboard slopes.

The check in

Club Med includes flights from a big choice of carriers and airports. We flew from London City to Geneva where we were met by the Club Med team and were quickly on our way in our own two and a half hour minivan transfer.

On arrival we were handed an envelope containing digital bracelets to open our room, lift passes and keys for our boot room locker. In the meantime our bags were unloaded and waiting for us outside our room, so the whole process was easy and speedy.

First impressions

Every member of the Club Med team is super friendly, helpful and totally ‘on it’. The staff is led by the Chief of the Village (Club Med’s term for the General Manager). We see him everywhere, welcoming guests into the restaurant, chatting to guests in the bar area, helping out where he can with a bit of tidying or wiping, and even singing and playing drums on stage on the last afternoon.

The room

Our simple room has everything for a comfortable stay including ample wardrobe space, a double sink, bath with over bath shower (for soaking tired limbs after a day on the slopes), and a glorious view over the mountains.

The facilities

Everything is included, even our ski passes (which are normally €348 each for six days) and ski lessons/guiding in groups, for every level. We sign up for lessons and our group of 12 ski with our ESF instructor, Thierry, for the next five days.

As well as tips to improve our technique, it’s great to benefit from his knowledge of which slopes are best in different conditions and at certain times of day. Being with an ESF ski instructor also means that we speed onto the lifts by joining the dedicated ski school line.

The Morraine main restaurant serves three buffet meals a day with a huge selection of hot and cold dishes; favourites such as hand-made pizza, pasta, soup, burgers, chips, a salad bar with a couple of dozen choices, a roast, grilled fish, selection of veggies, plus stations with specially made dishes which follow the theme of the day (Italian, seafood and Moroccan).

The gala dinner is a highlight with special dishes such as sashimi, scallops and beef wellington. My pudding loving friend reports excitedly each day on what’s available in the dessert area. The tarts are amazing (a French speciality) and the coconut ice cream is a big favourite.

You never go hungry at Club Med with snacks in the bar in the afternoon and early evening as well. For a change from the buffet, The Serec restaurant offers traditional Savoyard cuisine and table service.

One floor up, The Bobsleigh main bar has a stage and a large area from which to watch the nightly entertainment, lots of smaller spaces for a quieter chat, and a room with big screen for watching sport.

Evening shows include acrobats, lots of singing and dancing, and a games evening. Straight after the main show, Club Med staff lead the dancing from the smaller stage (which doubles as the space for a live band each afternoon) to an enthusiastic group of participants.

For drinks beers, wines, spirits and cocktails, almost everything is included. There’s a big outdoor terrace serving drinks and snacks, if you fancy soaking up the lunchtime rays. There’s a party atmosphere whenever we go out to ski with a DJ and trays of Génépi for those in need of a pep up.

Spa by Pavot is open for massages and treatments, or you can use the steam room and jacuzzi for €60 for the week or €13 per day.

The verdict

The Club Med team makes everyone feel very welcome and looked after, and ensures there is lots of fun along the way.

It is excellent for couples, families, groups and singles (the resort has single rooms with no supplement). It’s a very good option for beginners or where there is a variety of skiing levels within your travel group, as everyone can join groups with similar abilities.

Children’s Clubs for ages four to 17 offer ski and snowboard lessons, shows and activities. Very young children (aged two to three years) are also catered for with the club offering creative workshops, early learning, shows and walks.
