Alabama is inviting visitors to discover its scenic attractions by exploring the many trails that wind their way through the Southern state.
By designating 2025 as the ‘Year of Alabama Trails’, the state is highlighting the opportunities to plan a visit around its mountains, forests, waterways and urban sites.
Myriad Alabama trails crisscross a vast variety of natural wonders – from Gulf Coast beaches to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains that begin in Alabama and stretch all the way through Canada.

The trails offer a multitude of activities, such as hiking across parts of the state so diverse in flora and fauna that the areas have been called “America’s Amazon”, biking on road or designated mountain bike routes or paddling some of the 1,438 miles of navigable rivers and waterways, the most of any U.S. state.
There are also trails that introduce you to Alabama’s history – such as the Alabama Civil Rights Museum Trail, food and drink (including BBQ, world-famous fine dining and local wineries), music, and art and culture from antiques to quilts and modern murals, and even the state’s historic covered bridges.
For golfers, the Robert Trent Jones Trail is a network of 26 top-class public golf courses.
A spokesperson for Alabama Tourism said: “We are encouraging visitors to take this the year to exercise their bodies while resting their minds among the tranquility of some of the most gorgeous outdoor settings in the world.”
