Young people ‘open to cruising’, social experiment reveals 

A campaign led by Celebrity Cruises has changed outdated cruising preconceptions amongst Gen Z and Millennials. 

The cruise line surveyed 2,029 adults in the UK about their views on cruising. 

Celebrity Cruises reported that 77% of young people were found to have negative preconceived ideas of what a cruise holiday would be. It also highlighted that 88% of Brits under 26 considered them ‘cheesy’ and ‘for older people’. 

They conducted a social experiment to prove to young people just how much cruises have changed and what they can expect on board.  

Participants were shown images of the Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Cruises’ award winning ship. However, they were under the impression the images were of an exclusive, brand new luxury resort. 

When it was revealed that the locations were actually set on a cruise ship, 74% of Gen Z had changed their minds about cruising, with 59% declaring they were now completely open to booking a cruise holiday. 

The survey also highlighted that 78% of Millennials viewed cruising more positively, and were open to booking a cruise holiday, too. 

For the first time ever, guests are invited to set sail from the ship’s home port of Southampton, starting in May 2024.
