United Airlines has announced an extension of its new nonstop seasonal service between Glasgow and New York/Newark, a move which will see the airline offering an additional 22% available seats for this summer.

Set to launch on May 9, the new route will now operate until October 24, 2026, one month longer than previously scheduled.

United will be the only U.S. airline offering a nonstop service between Glasgow and the U.S. and marks United’s return to a city it served previously up until October 2019.

The daily service will leave Glasgow at 14:00, arriving at 16:35. The return flight will depart New York/Newark at 22.15, arriving into Glasgow at 10.00 the following morning.

The service will be operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, featuring 16 United Premium PlusSM, 54 Economy PlusSM and 96 economy seats.

“We are pleased to see strong interest in our new upcoming service from Glasgow to New York/Newark and this significant expansion further underlines the importance of Scotland within United’s global route network,” said Karolien De Hertogh, Director Sales UK and Ireland at United Airlines.

“Our customers in Scotland will be able to benefit from even more time and travel options to visit New York City, as well as the possibility to connect seamlessly via our U.S. hubs to over 140 onward destinations across the Americas. We look forward to welcoming our customers on board.”

Newark Liberty International Airport is located 23 kilometres from Manhattan and offers the fastest surface transfer journeys to many parts of the city, including the AirTrain service to New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan (a journey time of around 30 minutes).
