United Airlines is extending its seasonal service between Edinburgh and Washington D.C, and will offer flights almost year-round.

During the summer, the airline’s nonstop capital-to-capital service flies daily until October 25 but this year will continue into the winter season, operating a flight five times a week from October 26 until January 5, 2026, with the service resuming on February 20, 2026.

With the new route extension, United is increasing its seat offer from Edinburgh by almost 10% and is the only airline offering a year-round service from Edinburgh to the U.S. It also offers more seats and flights from Scotland to the U.S. than any other airline.

The route is operated by a Boeing 757-200, with 176 seats: 16 flat-bed seats in United Polaris Business class, 42 Economy Plus seats with added legroom, and 160 Economy seats.

The extended service builds on existing daily year-round flights from Edinburgh to New York/Newark and a daily seasonal service between Edinburgh and Chicago O’Hare.

The extension of the route is part of United’s largest ever international expansion, which sees the addition of six new destinations and nine new routes across the Atlantic this summer.

New destinations served from its hub in New York/Newark include Nuuk (Greenland), Bilbao (Spain), Palermo (Italy), and Madeira Island and Faro (Portugal).

Meanwhile, United has unveiled its United Elevated interior for its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Features include two new Business Class suites, the greatest number of total premium seats in United’s fleet, an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche service, Starlink connectivity and larger 4K OLED seatback screens.

The reimagined product features 99 total premium seats – the highest percentage among U.S. carriers – United Premium Plus seats with privacy dividers and wireless charging, and a United Economy cabin with Bluetooth connectivity and the largest Economy class seatback screens in the world.

The airline’s new United Polaris Studio suites are positioned in the first row of each business class section and total eight, lie-flat, all-aisle-access seats that are 25% larger than standard United Polaris with privacy doors, an extra ottoman seat for companions.

Exclusive entrée options, an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche service, new amenity kits with luxury skincare offerings, wireless charging, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 27-inch, 4K OLED seatback screen – the largest among US carriers.

Standard United Polaris seats also get upgraded to suites with the addition of sliding doors and larger, 19-inch 4K OLED screens and all customers flying United Polaris business class have access to the airline’s six award-winning United Polaris lounges across the system.

United expects to take delivery of the first United 787-9 with the Elevated interior before the end of 2025, with the first international passenger flights planned in 2026 from San Francisco to Singapore and San Francisco to London.
