Titanic Belfast has announced the launch of a new series of accessibility initiatives.

The attraction has introduced Sensory Backpacks and Quiet Sessions, further expanding its range of supports designed to enhance comfort, independence and enjoyment for visitors with additional needs.

The new measures build on Titanic Belfast’s continued investment in accessibility and inclusion in recent years, which has included the introduction of Changing Places facilities, multimedia guides featuring British Sign Language, and close collaboration with a range of charities and organisations such as Mencap and Orchardville.

Available to borrow free of charge, the new Sensory Backpacks are designed to support neurodiverse visitors and those who may benefit from additional sensory resources during their visit. While primarily aimed at children aged five to 12, the backpacks are available to any visitor who requires them.

The backpacks are themed around animals associated with the Titanic and include a range of carefully selected items such as ear defenders, sunglasses for brighter areas, emotions and senses cards, fidget and sensory toys, drawing materials, smelling cubes featuring aromas linked to the Titanic, a visual contents list and a sensory trail.

Alongside this, Titanic Belfast has launched dedicated Quiet Sessions for visitors who prefer reduced noise levels, softer lighting and a more relaxed environment. These sessions allow guests to explore the Titanic Experience at their own pace in a calm, sensory-friendly setting.

A morning Quiet Session will take place on Sunday February 22, with an afternoon session scheduled for Monday February 23.

Paula Bradley, Head of Operations at Titanic Belfast, said: “We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy a visit to Titanic Belfast in a way that feels comfortable, welcoming and accessible to them.

“The introduction of the new Sensory Backpack and Quiet Sessions reflects our long-term commitment to accessibility and inclusion. With support from teams across the business and external stakeholders, we have been working to bring these new initiatives to fruition.

“As a leading visitor attraction, it’s important to us that people with additional needs are given the same opportunities as everyone else to enjoy their visit to Titanic Belfast.”
