Revealed: most affordable cities for romantic trips

A study has ranked destinations according to flight and hotel room costs.

Warsaw is the most affordable city for a Valentine’s Day trip, according to a study from online discount platform Wethrift.

The Polish capital scored 144.45 out of 150, with average flight costs of £118pp and average hotel costs of £87 per night.

Wethrift used data from Kayak.com to analyse a host of metrics, including average flight costs and hotel prices, to determine the most affordable cities for couples to visit during February.

Dublin achieved second place, with a score of 133.35 and the lowest average flight cost of £89pp and average hotel cost per night of £150.

Florence and Dammam, in Saudi Arabia, tie for third place with scores of 127.8. Florence’s average flight cost is £186pp, while its average hotel cost is £128 per night. Dammam, meanwhile, has an average flight cost of £413pp and £94 for average hotel cost per night.

Next was Vancouver (88.90), Los Angeles (88.85), New York City (83.35), San Francisco (83.30), Las Vegas (72.20) and Honolulu (50.00).

Nick Drewe, Founder and CEO of Wethrift, said: “Our study shows you can still sweep your sweetheart off their feet without sweeping your bank account clean. From the cobbled streets of Warsaw to the cosy pubs of Dublin, there’s a loved-up adventure waiting that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

“It’s intriguing to see such a mixed bag in our top 10 – whether you’re after a European mini-break or a stateside sojourn, there’s something for everyone. You could find yourselves enjoying pierogi in Poland or sharing a pint in Ireland for less than the cost of a fancy dinner at home.”
