South Africa diversifies

South Africa is looking to venture beyond its traditional tourism destinations of Cape Town and the Garden Route and work towards multi-centre holidays across its nine provinces, according to Minister of Tourism Patricia De Lille.

Speaking during a press conference at African leisure trade show INDABA, she particularly recommended the Northern Cape for its stunning landscape. The seasons differ dramatically across the country to offer a year-round destination, Lille added.

Over 120 tourism SMMEs showcasing their products at INDABA in the Hidden Gems Pavilion were funded by the Department of Tourism’s Market Access Support Programme.

Over 60,000 of these ‘Gems’ will now feature on Google Maps following a new agreement which includes improvements of the platform’s directions to ensure visitors know where they can drive safely.

The excellent rate of exchange for visitors was another major topic of discussion. South Africa has recently been awarded second place out of 40 countries for best value for money.
