Over 100 agents gathered in Manchester, Glasgow and London in April to learn about Tenerife and its luxury hotel offering at our dedicated Selling Travel Connect: Tenerife event.
Agents were welcomed with wine and cheese from Tenerife as they mingled with some of the destination’s prime hoteliers including Barceló Tenerife, Be Live Experience Orotava, Hotel Botánico, H10 Hotels, Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Jardin Tecina, Melia Jardines Del Teide as well as the Spanish Tourist Office and Tenerife Tourism Corporation.
Introducing the destination to agents, Nuria Lorenz from the Tenerife Tourism Corporation painted a picture of an exotic destination that, while popular for its beaches, also offers breathtaking natural landscapes, Michelin-star gastronomy, lunar-like volcanic landscapes and luxury spas.
“Tenerife has so many unique experiences, for example visitors can walk through the largest lava tube in Europe: Cueva del Viento, stargaze at the top of Spain’s highest mountain, Mount Teide and dive to the bottom of a volcano.”
Although Tenerife has year-round sunshine, Lorenz was keen to highlight that the Canary Island is more than just a beach destination and is making waves in the wellness and gastronomy scene.
“Tenerife has eight Michelin-star restaurants and has two UNESCO World Heritage sites – La Laguna and National Park of Teide – which makes it a great sell for foodies or nature enthusiasts. We are also targeting digital nomads.”
Speaking at the Manchester event, Jon Fletcher of Wheelie Good Travel Group, said: “We have had several enquiries this week about Tenerife and now we have some great accessible hotels to recommend. These events are so important for us in order to offer more choice to clients that need some additional support.
He added: “ We have always found Tenerife to have good facilities for disabled people which is why it’s one of our top sellers.”
Whilst enjoying the London event, Kerry Elliott, Independent Travel Agent, said: “I specialise in Europe and am always recommending Tenerife for its nature. The event has given me some great contacts and proves yet again that you don’t need to travel far to find something truly unique.”
Meet the suppliers
Charleen Rudolf representing Barceló Tenerife was keen to showcase the resort’s recent renovation and natural appeal.
She said: “What sets us apart is that we embrace our natural surroundings in the heart of a volcanic landscape whilst still offering guests an exclusive five-star experience.
“All of the rooms boast furnished terraces and a hot tub, and some of them have sea views.”
Continuing on the five-star theme, Hotel Botanico spoke of its luxury offering, including the Oriental Spa Garden, which has been awarded five times as the best hotel spa in Europe by Conde Nast.
Following a renovation in 2020, the property is described as “a temple of well-being with indoor and outdoor pools, 20 treatment cabins and an expert team of therapists.”
Meanwhile, James Carvetta from Iberostar told agents about the brand’s impressive sustainability initiatives across all eight hotels in Tenerife.
“We were the first hotel chain in the world to eliminate single-use plastics, we’re working on becoming ‘waste-free’ by 2025 and ultimately we’re hoping to be carbon neutral by 2030.”
Another property focusing on its green credentials is the H10 brand, which has a portfolio of seven hotels across the island including the H10 Atlantic Sunset, a brand new five-star resort with terraces overlooking the ocean. Its environmental and social commitment is lead by its Stay Green Sustainability Plan.
For something completely unique, music-themed Hard Rock Hotel offers a ‘Sound of your Stay’ music service where guests get a personalized playlist created just for them. A real family-friendly resort, Hard Rock offers a Lullaby Club, a Roxity Kids Club and a Teen Spirit Club.
Also appealing to the family market is four-star Be Live Experience Orotava which has views out to sea and overlooking Mount Teide. Families will enjoy nearby Loro Parque where kids can spot all types of animals from penguins to gorillas.
Those looking for adults-only options won’t be disappointed by Melia Jardines Del Teide, which prides itself on its high level of service and offers ‘The Level’, an exclusive VIP service that adds an extra dose of luxury and comfort to guests’ stay.
And for golf enthusiasts, adults-only Hotel Jardin Tecina’s 18 Tecina Golf course is a par 71 golf course and offers sea views and fairways and greens surrounded by a profusion of native Canary Islands vegetation.
A prize draw rounded off the evening. Business cards were drawn and each supplier gave away a minimum two-night stay at their resort.
