Rocky Mountaineer is to introduce a brand-new Passage to the Peaks journey in Canada next summer – but just for a limited time.
Guests can journey to the heart of the Canadian Rockies and experience two destinations on the new route by signing up for a journey that begins and ends in the mountain towns of Banff and Jasper.
Passage to the Peaks is Rocky Mountaineer’s only route that doesn’t travel to the West Coast. Instead, after departing Jasper or Banff, guests will journey to Kamloops and spend the night there, before boarding the train the following morning and travelling on to Jasper or Banff (whichever they didn’t depart from) to complete their journey.
Along the way they will see evergreen forests, glacial lakes and the mountains that define the Canadian Rockies.
Other highlights include the dramatic scenery of the Continental Divide, Craigellachie (where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven), climbing Yellowhead Pass, Pyramid Falls, Mount Robson, Rogers Pass, Kicking Horse Canyon and the Spiral Tunnels.
Guests will spend time exploring Banff National Park, Lake Minnewanka and Bow Falls in Banff, plus Jasper National Park and Maligne Lake in Jasper at the beginning and/or end of their train journey.
Some packages also include the opportunity to ride an Ice Explorer (vehicle designed for glacial travel) to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier, which was formed thousands of years ago and located in Columbia Icefields – one of the largest icefields south of the Arctic Circle.
A two-day Passage to the Peaks journey, departing on set dates between June 10c and July 10 2026, costs from £1,670pp in SilverLeaf Service or from £2,301pp in GoldLeaf Service.
The price includes all meals onboard Rocky Mountaineer, one night’s stay at a hotel in Kamloops, and luggage handling and rail station transfers in Kamloops.
