Operators ‘encourage travel to Rhodes’ following wildfire crisis

Operators are offering discounted summer travel to support the local community in Rhodes, as travel resumes from this weekend.

As the travel industry continues to closely monitor the situation on the Greek island, many, including the foreign office, have deemed it safe to travel with both Tui and Jet2 reassuring that “hotels and resorts are fully operational” and “offering their usual service.”

Tui has confirmed holidays to the north will go ahead as scheduled from Saturday July 29, although the operator is continuing to offer flexibility for all passengers due to travel to Rhodes – north or south – up to or on Sunday July 30.

Jet2 has assured that most of its hotels, villas, and resorts are operating as normal and normal terms and conditions apply to customers travelling from Monday July 31 to Northern Rhodes as well as Lardos, Lindos, Kalathos and Pefkos.

Holidays to Gennadi, Kiotari and Lachania have been canceled up to and including Sunday August 13 with the option of an alternative holiday or a full refund.

Meanwhile, Friendship Travel, provider of solo holidays, has gone one step further by offering a 25% discount for departures to Rhodes on August 2 and 9 in a bid to “support the local community.”

“Following the devastating fires, our teams, both on the ground and in the UK, have been working tirelessly with local authorities to ensure the safety of our guests,” said Column McLornan, Friendship Travel Managing Director.

“The fires have now settled and life is returning to normal on the island, however, we’re continuing to monitor the situation closely. With the foreign office deeming it safe to travel, Friendship Travel guests have visited the island as planned.”

McLornan added: “It’s important for businesses and the industry overall to support locals who usually make most of their revenue in the summer months. With blue skies and a calm atmosphere here on the island, we’re encouraging our guests to travel if they feel comfortable and we are working hard to ensure locals are kept busy over the coming weeks.”

Some small fires still burn inland on Rhodes Island within the mountain areas. However, these are well away from the beach resorts of Pefkos and Lindos and remain stable and under control.
