The top trends for 2025 might not be what you expect

Almost a quarter of travellers are planning four or more trips, according to a study from travel technology company Sabre.

Figures show that 40% of respondents are gearing up for two getaways in 2025. There are 12% looking at five or more getaways, which is a 2% rise from last year.

The study, which highlights 10 key travel trends for 2025, saw travel industry specialists reveal what they prioritise when booking their own holidays.

Asia-led destinations ranked in second place, with a 34% increase in bookings made by travellers for the region year-on-year.

Next were Baby Boomers, who are the generation most likely to increase their travel budgets. Boomers have the highest proportion of respondents opting to spend significantly more on travel in 2025 than in 2024.

It was found that travellers are increasingly seeking outdoor adventures, with 46% of respondents ranking visiting landmarks, monuments, museums and galleries as their top holiday activities.

Food is a key feature of 2025 holidays for many travellers, with 27% of Baby Boomers identifying food as their top holiday priority.

Airline quality is most important to almost 10% of Gen Z respondents, while booking with ease is a key consideration for both Gen X and Gen Y.

The study shows that most travellers prefer to plan ahead, with 52% of respondents purchasing flight tickets three to six months before departure. This is a 14% increase compared to the same period last year.

A higher portion of respondents in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and North America are planning trips with extended family. It was found that 69% of parents would like their grandparents to join them for more holiday time.

Sustainability is becoming a significant factor, especially when clear information is provided. The study revealed that, when presented with data on lower-emission options, 54% of travellers considered carbon emissions in their decision-making.
