Destination Canada hosted 70 travel specialists at an exclusive documentary screening in London on September 11 2024.
In 500 Days in the Wild, adventurer and filmmaker Dianne Whelan embarks on an epic 24,000km journey across Canada. The documentary – which is currently streaming on Paramount in Canada – highlights the varied terrains across Canada’s vast landscapes.
A pre-film drinks reception was sponsored by Air Canada.
Rachel McQueen, Managing Director – UK at Destination Canada, said: “Destination Canada and Air Canada were delighted to bring 500 Days in the Wild to an exclusive screening in London. It was a joy to see the audience so captivated.
“We hope that the film will secure a wider distribution in the UK later this year. Filmmaker Dianne Whelan fully deserved the standing ovation at the end, which was a measure of the power of this film.”
Held at RSA House’s Durham Street Auditorium, the screening was the first for a UK audience. Those in attendance included representatives from Destination Canada, tour operators, media and 10 couples who won a competition at the tourist board’s recent Financial Times event.
Whelan herself was there to introduce the film, which documents her days spent hiking, biking, paddling, snowshoeing, skiing and canoeing in the country’s dense wilderness.
“I always knew that I wanted to honour the land as I travelled across it. I’m proud of my country and I wanted an inclusive story that featured everybody,” she said.
