Malta is pushing travel trends such as LGBTQ+ travel, budget travel, movie tourism and winter sun for 2023.
Speaking at World Travel Market this week, Manuel Roberto Holden-Ayala, Trade Relations Executive at Malta Tourism Authority, spoke of how Malta continues to be one of the top destinations for LGBTQ+ travel and how hosting EuroPride next year will help drive tourism.
He said: “For the seventh year in a row, Malta continues to occupy the number one spot on the Rainbow Europe Index with a score of 92%. We are very excited for the Maltese capital of Valletta to host EuroPride 2023 from September 7-17.”
Film and TV tourism is also a focus, following the success of Jurassic World, Game of Thrones, Troy and Gladiator, which were all filmed on Malta.
According to research conducted by the tourist board, Jurassic World (47%) topped the list of movie locations Brits would like to visit, followed by Lord of the Rings (38%), Star Wars (32%) and Gladiator (23%).
Winter sun and budget travel are also predicted to fare well as the cost of living crisis continues to influence holiday decision-making.
According to travel agent loveholidays, Malta tops the list for best winter holiday bargains ahead of Spain and Portugal, and is comparatively less busy than other Mediterranean destinations.
