Luxury a ‘key component’ of honeymoons, survey reveals

Brits have cited ‘luxury’ as a key component of their dream honeymoon, according to a survey by Go2Africa.

The tour operator partnered up with YouGov to survey over 2,000 adults in the UK about their honeymoon preferences.

Go2Africa reported that 49% of travellers consider luxury to be important, with 12% acknowledging it as ‘very important – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience’.

The survey highlighted that 20% of newlyweds said their ideal budget would range from £2,500 – £4,999 and 43% would save for six months to two years.

The top five honeymoon destinations were also revealed, including the Maldives (38%), the Caribbean (36%), Italy (35%), the Seychelles (29%) and Bali (23%).

UK adults considered several factors when picking a destination, including the cost (65%), the hotel (58%), safety (45%) and travel time (43%).

Rima Barakeh, wedding expert and Deputy Editor at hitched.co.uk said: ““Post-pandemic, we have seen a shift in what matters most to couples when it comes to wedding planning. Our latest National Wedding Survey found that 70% of couples’ wedding budget wasn’t impacted by the economy, with 47% actually going over budget in the end – so it’s no surprise that newlyweds are taking a similar approach to booking a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon.

“Particularly since the pandemic, the trend amongst couples seems to be unique and memorable experiences, and honeymoon holidays give newlyweds the perfect excuse to go all-out and plan a trip that they’ll remember forever.”

The data demonstrates that couples are willing to invest in unforgettable memories and embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey where every moment is luxurious – with almost half admitting it was a key component of a honeymoon.”
