Visit Portugal launches Digital Nomad Scheme
by Jessica Pook
A Digital Nomad Village has been created in Ponta do Sol in Madeira to encourage people to work remotely from the island.
Situated on the south coast, a short drive from the capital Funchal, the Digital Nomad Village is an entire community dedicated to welcome workers who no longer need to be located in their home country.
For the pilot programme, running until June 30 2001, the village is offering travellers a free working space with a desk and chair, access to a Slack (a business communication platform) and free internet use.
Hosting up to 100 nomads at any one time, residents must commit to staying for at least a month.
Visitors will be integrated into local life with help from the Digital Nomad team and will have access to the beaches, hikes, and art and culture that Ponta do Sol has on offer.
