Representatives from UK travel agencies and tour operators have just returned from the first trade familiarisation trip to Dominica since the start of the global pandemic.
The 12-strong group were jointly hosted by Secret Bay, Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort, Cabrits Resort & Spa Kempinski, and the Discover Dominica Authority. Guests included individuals from Elegant Resorts, Red Savannah, Destinology, Diverse Travel, Reigate Travel, ITC, Olivers Travels, Luxury Travel Club, Luxtripper, Original Travel, Fish n Pips and 2J’s Travel.
The travel trade professionals spent six nights on the island to sample the accommodations and experiences Dominica has to offer. The itinerary included hiking to Trafalgar Falls, snorkelling at Champagne Reef, wild swimming at Titou Gorge, a boat trip on Indian River, and an afternoon at Cabrits National Park with renowned Dominican historian and author Lennox Honeychurch.
The fam trip also included a gala cocktail party and dinner hosted by Discover Dominica Authority CEO Colin Piper at the Cabrits Resort & Spa Kempinski, where participants had the opportunity to learn more about the destination’s marketing initiatives and plans for the construction of a new international airport to be completed by 2024. The new airport will pave the way for the introduction of direct international air service from the United Kingdom.
Participants also learned about Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort’s new All-Inclusive, Island-Included programme and its direct benefits to the local community as well as plans for new amenities and villas at Secret Bay.
Oliver Rodwell, Region Head-Americas at Original Travel said: “Dominica was so much more than I expected. Lush and green, wild and untamed, friendly and inviting and relatively untouched by mainstream tourism. A handful of luxury hotels all offering unique experiences also bring the island to life and show that luxury and adventure can go hand in hand in the Caribbean. I can’t wait to go back with my family.”
Leesa Campbell, Personal Travel Consultant at Destinology, said: “It's called the Nature Island for a reason- such a beautiful unspoiled destination. Dominica is the perfect location for anyone who likes to get out and explore, and is one of the best locations in the Caribbean for divers.”
