The Selling Travel Connect: FERGUS Hotels event in Leeds outlined the Spanish hotel group’s branding and its exciting new opening in Mallorca

David González Garcia, Commercial Director of FERGUS Hotels, travelled from Spain to meet travel agents from the Leeds area on 15 April. During the Selling Travel Connect: FERGUS Hotels event held at The Studio in Leeds, he gave a presentation about his company and participated in a question-and-answer session before holding a draw that resulted in three of the travel agents present winning seven-night stays at the FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark hotel that opens in May.

Notable openings in 2024

A notable step in the group’s expansion is the €20 million repositioning of the former BH Mallorca Resort Hotel into the FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark, tent Calvia Beach, and tent Mojito Suites. The project underscores the brand’s pledge to supporting the development of Magaluf while enriching the tourism landscape to attract families and discerning guests. 

Opening on 16 May 2024, FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark will have a family focus and feature the Balearic Islands’ largest water park in a hotel resort. The four-star hotel will have 656 rooms and feature MAGNUS rooms, with their own reception desk and restaurant, that offer additional in-room amenities including PlayStation5.  

Just 200 metres from the shore, the 280-room tent Calvia Beach is a design-led hotel that will open on 6 June. That’s also true of the 120-unit tent Mojito Suites. Both offer the innovative B&UB concept, a 24/7 self-service laundry facility and the convenience of enjoying takeaway meals throughout the hotel. These features cater to independent travellers who appreciate a more personalised holiday experience. 

Travel agents’ views of the event

Three agents each won a seven-night all-inclusive stay for four (two adults and two children) at the Fergus Club Mallorca Waterpark Hotel with complimentary tickets to the Son Amar Show.

The first prize winner drawn was Joanne Halliwell of Hays Travel’s Crossgates branch.

“For me, the interesting part of the evening, apart from seeing the hotels, was hearing how the hotel group is working with local authorities to encourage families to stay in the Magaluf area, which gives us confidence to explain to our customers, who we would generally not recommend to stay in the area. We also benefitted from the info on the group’s tent Hotels,” she commented.

“I found the evening to be a relaxed and informal way of learning and the information will definitely benefit us – and in turn our customers – as we can give more informed recommendations based on what we learned,” added Halliwell about the event.

The card of Jayne Lomax, of Travel Counsellors, was the second to be picked.

“David gave a great overview of all of the properties – their location, style, room types and who they were best suited to. It was great to get a feel for which hotels have recently been renovated and find out more about the tent Hotels – the concept and the benefits for clients. Hearing about the new for summer 2024 FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark hotel was a highlight, with David giving us the confidence to sell it to the target market of families,” she said.

“As someone relatively new to travel, this event was useful for widening my knowledge of hotels in Spain, as well as the history and development of FERGUS Hotels. Being  a homeworker, events such as this are great for networking with others in the industry, and creating connections which will no doubt help me sell more holidays in the future,” added Lomax.

The third prize winner was Aliyah Sehgal, whose business card was also drawn during the previous Selling Travel Connect event in Leeds: “Attending the Selling Travel event helped me understand so many more aspects of a package that will make the biggest difference in getting customers exactly what they want and making sales.”

“David’s presentation went into detail about what the FERGUS brand has to offer – which is truly amazing – from the all-inclusive through the unlimited brunch to catering for multigenerational guests and especially families. He made is very clear there is something for everyone. David also touched on the tent Hotels chain, which gives us an opportunity to cater for guests who want an amazing holiday but with less going on, which allows the price to be more suitable for certain customers,” added Sehgal, from the Althams Travel Batley branch.

“I thought the event was amazing: very informative with a laid-back atmosphere. I learnt so much about the FERGUS chain and the team at Selling Travel did an amazing job in getting us all involved and filling our heads with knowledge to feedback to customers,” concluded Sehgal.
