FERGUS Hotels showcases family appeal

The Selling Travel Connect: FERGUS Hotels event in Leeds outlined the Spanish hotel group’s branding and its exciting new opening in Mallorca

David González Garcia, Commercial Director of FERGUS Hotels, travelled from Spain to meet travel agents from the Leeds area on 15 April. During the Selling Travel Connect: FERGUS Hotels event held at The Studio in Leeds, he gave a presentation about his company and participated in a question-and-answer session before holding a draw that resulted in three of the travel agents present winning seven-night stays at the FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark hotel that opens in May.

“FERGUS Group is one of the fastest growing companies in the holiday accommodation market in Spain. With our expertise in repositioning hotels, we excel in transforming properties in well-established destinations across the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Catalonia and Andalusia. Whether it’s through extensive renovations or offering innovative experiences, we make our hotels sought-after destinations for travellers seeking their ideal stay,” explained Cristina Salmerón Urbano , Marketing Director at FERGUS Group.

“We seek to forge strong partnerships with local travel agents that sell family friendly and couples’ products in Spain, particularly relevant in the Leeds area given our key partnership with Jet2holidays in the UK. We’re also excited to showcase our newest openings in Magaluf, including FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark and two new hotels under the innovative tent concept, which we are confident will be particularly attractive to these agents,” said Salmerón Urbano.

She added that the group was thrilled to introduce the transformation of the former BH Mallorca Resort Hotel into three distinct properties under two of the FERGUS Group brands, a development that looks set to breathe new life into the Calvia Beach area: “These include the family-friendly FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark, set to open on 16 May, and two hotels under the tent Hotels brand – tent Calvia Beach and tent Mojito Suites – opening on June 6, ideal for discerning guests who want more from their holidays.”

“With 80% growth in the last year alone, this is an exciting moment for FERGUS Group to be expanding our engagement with UK travel agents. Aside from our new developments in Magaluf, we’d encourage agents to explore our extensive hotel portfolio, spanning 26 hotels and 16,000 beds to date. We sell through our UK partners, easyJet and Jet2Holidays and for our new hotels, we’re pleased to offer an 18% discount code OPENING24 on all room types for agents that book directly with us,” added Salmerón Urbano.

About the FERGUS Group

The evening emphasised that FERGUS Group is a leading Spanish hotel group operating 26 hotels grouped under three business lines – FERGUS Hotels, tent Hotels and Affiliated by FERGUS – and with a unified corporate culture in terms of quality and service.

Founded and owned by Pep Cañellas in 2011 in Palma de Mallorca, the company has a young, highly qualified team led by CEO Bernat Vicens.

The group’s strategic focus is on growth. Currently incorporating hotels into its portfolio FERGUS Hotels specialises in repositioning them into quality holiday destinations.

It offers four- and five-star hotels in the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Andalusia and Canary Islands. They are holiday hotels and resorts with ‘a Mediterranean essence’ which appeal to wide range of travellers: including families, couples and incentive groups.

Created to challenge the traditional hotel concept through an innovative Bed&Unlimited Brunch (B&UB) offer that is available daily from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm, tent Hotels has fully renewed facilities offering comfortable, practical and design-oriented accommodation. With discreet yet attentive service supported by digital tools, staying at a tent Hotels property ensures freedom and autonomy for travellers who want to make the most of their holiday destination.

Additionally, Affiliated by FERGUS is an affiliate business line offering hotel owners an efficient management model to succeed in a highly competitive market. That includes access to tools and resources which enhance their teams’ professionalism and optimise results.

Travellers from the UK

FERGUS Group appeals primarily to families and modern travellers seeking quality holiday experiences that combine comfort with convenience and innovation. Offering Mediterranean hospitality which meets the demands of the modern traveller, the properties cater to holidaymakers looking for memorable stays.

This ranges from families searching for engaging, family-friendly facilities like those at FERGUS Club Mallorca Water Park to adults looking for premium experiences like those available in FERGUS Style properties. The offering also appeals to travellers who value-added amenities such as the B&UB concept, tentlaundry self-laundry and tentlivery dining options. At tent Hotels there’s an agreement with Just Eat so that guests can enjoy food from elsewhere.

Notable openings in 2024

A notable step in the group’s expansion is the €20 million repositioning of the former BH Mallorca Resort Hotel into the FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark, tent Calvia Beach, and tent Mojito Suites. The project underscores the brand’s pledge to supporting the development of Magaluf while enriching the tourism landscape to attract families and discerning guests.

Opening on 16 May 2024, FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark will have a family focus and feature the Balearic Islands’ largest water park in a hotel resort. The four-star hotel will have 656 rooms and feature MAGNUS rooms, with their own reception desk and restaurant, that offer additional in-room amenities including PlayStation5.

Just 200 metres from the shore, the 280-room tent Calvia Beach is a design-led hotel that will open on 6 June. That’s also true of the 120-unit tent Mojito Suites. Both offer the innovative B&UB concept, a 24/7 self-service laundry facility and the convenience of enjoying takeaway meals throughout the hotel. These features cater to independent travellers who appreciate a more personalised holiday experience.

Travel agents’ views of the event

Three agents each won a seven-night all-inclusive stay for four (two adults and two children) at the Fergus Club Mallorca Waterpark Hotel with complimentary tickets to the Son Amar Show.

The first prize winner drawn was Joanne Halliwell of Hays Travel’s Crossgates branch.

“For me, the interesting part of the evening, apart from seeing the hotels, was hearing how the hotel group is working with local authorities to encourage families to stay in the Magaluf area, which gives us confidence to explain to our customers, who we would generally not recommend to stay in the area. We also benefitted from the info on the group’s tent Hotels,” she commented.

“I found the evening to be a relaxed and informal way of learning and the information will definitely benefit us – and in turn our customers – as we can give more informed recommendations based on what we learned,” added Halliwell about the event.

The card of Jayne Lomax, of Travel Counsellors, was the second to be picked.

“David gave a great overview of all of the properties – their location, style, room types and who they were best suited to. It was great to get a feel for which hotels have recently been renovated and find out more about the tent Hotels – the concept and the benefits for clients. Hearing about the new for summer 2024 FERGUS Club Mallorca Waterpark hotel was a highlight, with David giving us the confidence to sell it to the target market of families,” she said.

“As someone relatively new to travel, this event was useful for widening my knowledge of hotels in Spain, as well as the history and development of FERGUS Hotels. Being  a homeworker, events such as this are great for networking with others in the industry, and creating connections which will no doubt help me sell more holidays in the future,” added Lomax.

The third prize winner was Aliyah Sehgal, whose business card was also drawn during the previous Selling Travel Connect event in Leeds: “Attending the Selling Travel event helped me understand so many more aspects of a package that will make the biggest difference in getting customers exactly what they want and making sales.”

“David’s presentation went into detail about what the FERGUS brand has to offer – which is truly amazing – from the all-inclusive through the unlimited brunch to catering for multigenerational guests and especially families. He made is very clear there is something for everyone. David also touched on the tent Hotels chain, which gives us an opportunity to cater for guests who want an amazing holiday but with less going on, which allows the price to be more suitable for certain customers,” added Sehgal, from the Althams Travel Batley branch.

“I thought the event was amazing: very informative with a laid-back atmosphere. I learnt so much about the FERGUS chain and the team at Selling Travel did an amazing job in getting us all involved and filling our heads with knowledge to feedback to customers,” concluded Sehgal.
