The handbook highlights experiences and tours for those with additional access needs

DTH Travel is stepping up its guide training initiatives to support UK travel agents with on-ground service across Asia.

Its The Essential Tour Guide Handbook, written by DTH co-founder and former guide Thomas Maurer, covers everything from intercultural communication and guest needs to leadership and sustainability, with a special focus on accessibility.

Drawing on over two decades of experience across Asia and Europe, the book is now being distributed in print to all DTH guides.

Stephan Roemer, CEO, DTH Travel, said: “At DTH Travel, we’re committed to making travel accessible for everyone across all 14 destinations we operate in, whether that means tailoring itineraries with adapted vehicles and accessible accommodations or ensuring our teams are trained to meet specific support needs.

“In destinations like the Philippines we’ve seen incredible local hospitality, such as assisting guests from boat to shore when ramps aren’t available. Through our CSR initiatives, we also support local projects that empower people with disabilities.

“A standout example is our ‘The House with No Steps’ tour, which not only enables travellers with disabilities to explore new places but also directly supports local individuals with disabilities.”

For UK and Irish travel agents, booking through DTH Travel gives access to authentic, curated tours led by local guides who have trained at DTH’s long-standing Tour Guide Academy, a year-round training programme offered in all 14 of its Asian destinations.

Roemer concludes: Sustainability begins with people. Our academy and new handbook are built to help guides connect meaningfully with the new generation of travellers – those who are more curious, more conscious, and who seek deeper, more local travel experiences.”
