The Cuban tourism ministry is looking for UK partners to boost tourism. As part of this goal it has announced its travel tradeshow Destinos Gaviotas Tourism Trade Affairs 2022 will take place in Havana from October 24 to 28.
The programme will host tour operators, travel agents, retail agencies and hoteliers, giving a taste of what’s new in the destination post-pandemic.
Cuba also launched a consumer and trade marketing campaign, highlighting the unique nature of the island’s attractions and people.Using the slogan Cuba Unica (Unique) and hashtag #CubaUnica, the promotion highlights the differences between Cuba and other Caribbean destinations.
The marketing material features the people of Cuba “as ambassadors of the brand”, along with the destination’s natural, historic, cultural and gastronomic attractions.
Mayte Suarez Rueda, director of Cuba’s tourist office in the UK and Ireland, said the campaign aims to show a “hospitable and open Cuba that combines tradition and modernity”.
Rueda said: “The forced pause imposed by the pandemic was used to build new hotel facilities, as well as remodelling and modernising others.
“Cuba has obtained some international recognition recently. The Bounce tourism platform selected Cuba as the third best snorkelling destination in the world and Cuba has been selecting as the main cultural destination in the Caribbean by the World Travel Awards.
“We hope that by working together with stakeholders in the UK, visitors from the UK will once again become our third biggest market for tourist arrivals to Cuba.”
