CLIA’s Cruise Week, an annual event that includes a host of trade-friendly cruise initiatives and updates for agents, will take place from September 16-25.
The event’s ‘Get Onboard’ theme will showcase the many reasons people should consider a cruise holiday.
The specific trade activities on offer during the week will include a host of marketing and social media activities, with shareable content and a particular focus on cruise destinations.
From its Trade Working Groups, CLIA, the world’s largest cruise industry trade association, will share sales tips from cruise line executives to support travel agents looking to increase their sales, and there will be a number of special Cruise Week webinars, exclusive cruise line deal and incentives for the trade, which will be published in the membership area of the CLIA website.
In addition, a special Cruise Week page on CLIA’s website will offer a practical checklist of the ways in which agents can capitalise on the week and their CLIA membership, as well as download assets.
Agents will also be encouraged to use social media, marketing, their own events and PR to help amplify the messages shared during Cruise Week.
Andy Harmer, CLIA managing director for UK & Ireland, said: “We’re very excited this year’s Cruise Week is on the horizon… we’re encouraging all agents to stay tuned via social media and our other communications platforms.”
Ambassador’s Ambition for Ukraine
Ambassador Cruise Line has confirmed that its second ship Ambition is to be deployed to house Ukrainian refugees in Scotland.
A deal with the Scottish government will see the vessel dock in Glasgow from next month to accommodate up to 1,750 people displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The ship had been due to enter service for Ambassador in March 2023.
The line said: “We have agreed a joint arrangement with the Scottish government that means we can help the Scottish resettlement program for the Ukraine population, many of whom are fleeing the country.
“We are proud to be supporting such an important humanitarian cause.
“We will be communicating with guests in due course to explain this agreement and we hope they will understand our wishes to help with this cause.”
Ambition is due to depart from its home port of London Tilbury and from six regional UK ports: Newcastle, Dundee, Liverpool, Belfast, Bristol and Falmouth, for the 2023-24 season.
Sister lines relax health regulations
Cunard Line and P&O Cruises will relax their Covid health protocols from September 6.
Testing for fully vaccinated passengers will no longer be ‘required’ but instead remain ‘highly recommended’ for shorter sailings.
However, vaccinated guests still require a negative antigen or PCR test on sailings of 16 nights or more.
Both cruise lines have indicated that tighter rules may be in place in certain regions such as Canada and Australia.
“These updated protocols reflect the current environment across the world,” said Sture Myrmell, Carnival UK President.
P&O Cruises temporarily eased testing requirements in late June aboard a single ship, Iona, for several sailings to test how guests might respond and whether the measure would be suitable.
Although successful, the relaxation of testing was not extended nor applied to other ships.
The two lines still require all adult guests to be fully vaccinated.
Crew are all vaccinated and are tested regularly.
