According to the latest ‘PATA Polls’ – a series of agent surveys – 80% of agents say they are receiving regular enquiries for the region.
Australia and the Maldives are the most sought after, closely followed by Cambodia.
PATA UK & Ireland Chairmain Chris Crampton, said: “The Maldives continues to be one of Pacific Asia’s most popular holiday destinations proven in a recent poll amongst our PATA agents which revealed almost a fifth (19.62%) of bookings made are to the Maldives and largely (51%) for winter 2022/23.”
European countries are the most enquired about overall while other popular long-haul regions included the Caribbean, USA and Indian Ocean.
Of the 20% of agents who are yet to see enquiries return for the region, most stated that clients have either ‘already booked a holiday elsewhere’ or are ‘taking a staycation’. While 15% of clients still have concerns over COVID-19.
Despite the current UK cost of living crisis, the survey suggested that 42% of customers are happy to spend more and upgrade their trip, 57% are still seeking value and only 9% of customers can’t afford a holiday at the moment.
