Airlines offer Hawaii as viable twin-break option

New airline routes and trade partnerships are providing UK travellers more options for combining Hawaii with city breaks across North America.

Alaska Airlines has launched a daily year-round service between London Heathrow and Seattle, providing onward connections to all four major Hawaiian Islands via its domestic network.

The development comes as Hawaiian Airlines joins the Oneworld alliance, giving travellers improved onward connections and loyalty benefits across partner airlines.

Delta Air Lines has also introduced a new London-Boston route. The airline will operate daily Boston-Honolulu flights during the peak Christmas period before reducing to four weekly services for the remainder of the winter season.

Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines will launch a three-times-weekly Las Vegas-Hilo service on August 6, opening another routing option for visitors travelling to the Aloha State.

Hawaii Tourism said the additional connectivity is a result of growing demand for two-centre holidays that combine the islands with destinations beyond those traditional gateways such as Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The tourism authority said Seattle, Boston, Las Vegas, Chicago and New York are among the cities that are now viable stopover options for travellers looking to build longer multi-centre holidays featuring Hawaii.

Sarah Gibbons, Senior Product Manager for USA, Bermuda and Mexico at Lusso, said: “While stopovers in Los Angeles and San Francisco en-route to Hawaii have always been popular and work well, we are noticing a trend in Lusso clients and agents asking for alternative stopover destinations within the USA.

“The wide range of stopover options offers the chance to discover a new city and experience somewhere totally different to Hawaii.”
