Thailand Shades campaign to attract new visitors

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched a new marketing campaign, ‘Open to the New Shades of Thailand’, which will support the TAT’s Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018.

The ‘Shades of Thailand’ concept reflects another kind of ‘Thainess’”, which is the unique characteristic of the Thai people to welcome visitors of ‘all shades from around the world.

Aimed at both first-time and repeat visitors, it will target specific market segments such as luxury travellers, couples and honeymooners and families.

TAT hopes that by focusing on different aspects of Thailand, including gastronomy, nature and culture, the campaign will open up lesser-known areas of Thailand and attract a wave of new visitors.

Speaking at WTM, Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor, Tourism Authority of Thailand said: “We want to open up rural Thailand. This campaign is designed for Thailand’s future customers – we want to grow the market and get new visitors to Thailand.”

Digital content will be key, as the TAT employs user-generated content, particularly video, to showcase the country.

The UK is Thailand’s number one market, with 723,000 arrivals between January and September this year. TAT is hopeful that by the year’s end over 990,000 will have visited. “The flights are full so we are hopeful we will reach that figure,” added Supasorn.

Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018 will see an international programme of events across the world, drawing attention to Thailand’s gastronomy and culture.

The country will host the fourth UNWTO World Forum of Gastronomy Tourism in Bangkok from May 30-June 1 2018.
